Foreword by Councillor Cathy Muldoon
Provost of West Lothian Council
“Bowlers of West Lothian, it is with a great sense of pride and honour that one of my first contributions to the local Community as the recently elected Provost of West Lothian is to provide the traditional Foreword to the 22nd year of the highly acclaimed West Lothian Masters.
West Lothian Council is proud to have been an integral part of the launch of the 1st West Lothian Masters in 1999 with the first Provost’s supporting foreword penned by Councillor Joe Thomas who sang the praises of an innovative and imaginative new initiative that heralded the first of its kind in Scotland – and probably the UK.
The Masters, by popular acclaim, has served the vast bowls community in West Lothian exceptionally well and has again demonstrated to the wider horizons of Scotland that vision doesn’t stand still – by the decision to welcome and embrace the history making participation of the female community of bowlers into the 2022 championship.
And in doing so coinciding with the recent election of myself as the First Female to serve the High Office of Provost of West Lothian – a memorable 2022 double you may say and for my part It’s a great honour and privilege of which I am very proud to have been entrusted with.
The proud West Lothian Banner benefits greatly from the positive headlines generated regularly by the successes of our talented bowlers as they parade their skills on stages far and near and I am sure that,
The Bowls Community at large will welcome my digression in this message to pay tribute to the July 23rd triumph of Buchan Park Ladies Alison Brown Doreen Reeder Margaret Kain and Vikki Turner being hailed as Champions of Scotland by capturing the National Four Crown in the theatre of dreams at Ayr Northfield.
The West Lothian Masters is our local theatre of dreams event and as the field of 160 campaign across the villages and towns of the area I wish all of you competitive spirited sportspersons will enjoy an exciting experience in attempting to capture the Holy Grail Title and its reward of the coveted Green Jacket and £1000.
You have to be in it to win it and for one of you the dream of being crowned The West Lothian Master is about to come true”.
Provost Cathy Muldoon.
